    HISTORY OF KOLAR.

    Kolar is formerly known as Kolahala, Kuvalala and Kolala, was called Kolahalapura during the Middle Ages. In Kannada, kolahahapura means “violent city” and it was the battlefield for the warring Chalukyas in the north and the Cholas in the south. In 1004 AD, the Cholas annexed Kolar until 1116. Vishnuvardhana (1108-1142) freed Gangavadi from the Cholas and, to commemorate his victory, built the Chennakesava Temple at Belur.
    Kolaramma and Someshwara are notable temples in Kolar. The Kolaramma temple, built in Dravida Vimana style during the second century, is dedicated to Shakti. It underwent renovations under Rajendra Chola I in the 10th century and the Vijayanagara kings in the 15th century. Someswara Temple is an example of 14th-century Vijayanagara art.
    Kolar’s early history was compiled by Fred Goodwill, superintendent of the Wesleyan Tamil mission in Bangalore and the Kolar Gold Fields, and his studies have been published in a number of journals. Older than Bangalore, Kolar dates back to the second century. The Western Gangas made Kolar their capital, while ruling Mysore, Coimbatore, Salem and Travancore.
    The Kolar District was known for mining of Gold. People of Kolar District, depends on Agriculture, Dairy Farming, Sericulture. The district is popularly known as the land of “silk, milk and gold”. Farmers in Kolar depend on borewell water for irrigation and drinking. Srinivasapur of Kolar District known for world famous Mango’s, which exports to the number of countries in the world.
    Kolar has Agricultural producers’ Marketing committee, which is 2nd largest in Asia, Largest in South India. Known for one of the largest supply place of Tomato in India.
    The population of Kolar District, as per the census-2011 is 1536401.

    HISTORY OF COURTS

    The History of establishment Courts at Kolar, take back to the British era i.e., the Magistrate Courts are housed in the Heritage Building constructed in the year 1867. Earlier, acting Magistrate Courts functioning in the tiles roofed buildings, even now housed 3 Courts i.e. Prl. Judge, Family Court, Kolar, II-Addl. Senior Civil Judge and JMFC., Kolar, II-Addl. Civil Judge and JMFC., Kolar and Advocate Association Kolar District is accommodated in the Heritage Building.
    The Prl. Civil Judge and JMFC., Kolar earlier having nomenclature as Munsiff Court/Magistrate Court (now Prl. Civil Judge and JMFC., Court Kolar) was functioning from 1883.
    So also, the court at KGF was functioning from 15.11.1903 vide GO.No.FL 1181/2.

      The Prl. District and Sessions Court, Kolar was functioning from 01.10.1964 vide Government Order No. III.IV.V HD 99 GAD 64 dated:22.8.1964.
      Likewise, the various courts in the Kolar Unit came to be functioning from the dates as mentioned below.
